Pixi toner

I have recently bought 3 Pixi products, after trying their toner which I absolutely adored and can honestly say that this cult favorite stands up to all the rave. I will absolutely be keeping this toner in my routine from now on.

I bought the 100ml bottle of toner which I have been using for about a month or so and it has barely made a dent in the amount of product. This little bottle of toner can safely last you 3 – 6 months.

The bottle states that the toner has 5% glycolic acid which exfoliates the skin. The low percentage of glycolic acid allows for the daily use of the product without causing irritation. Also when used in low levels glycolic acid can act to help moisturizes the skin by attracting and trapping water molecules. So not only does this toner exfoliate it moisturizes the skin.

The toner boasts 3 key ingredients not counting the glycolic acid; aloe vera, ginseng, and botanical extracts (witch hazel and horse chestnut). The toner is alcohol-free which means it does not dry out the skin and which also makes this toner perfect for sensitive skin.

Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice

Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice can soothe the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera, which is considered to a be a super-food superstar has 75 known different nutrients which help bring out the best in your skin by protecting it from environmental toxins. Aloe vera moisturizes the skin, while also clearing the pores, and has antimicrobial properties.

Ginseng is an anti-aging ingredient because it contains a large number of phytonutrients which gets rid of free radicals from everyday pollutants. Ginseng  also increases the production of collagen which makes your skin more elastic and decreases wrinkles and fine lines. Ginseng can reduce the puffiness of under-eye circles and lightens up the appearance of your under-eye circles.

Witch Hazel and Horse Chestnut

Witch Hazel and Horse Chestnut. I love witch hazel, witch hazel is a king among skincare ingredients which is why you can find it on the list of many products. It fights acne, reduces the appearance of pores, reduces excess oil production, and helps stop the development of whiteheads and blackheads. Witch hazel can also treat eczema. Horse Chestnut is another anti-aging ingredient in this toner because it promotes circulation and has great anti-oxidant properties all the while helping your body fight inflammation.

For a month I applied this toner in the morning and in the evening. In the first two weeks, I noticed my skin clear up and it was amazing. The tiny bumps on my forehead had faded and almost disappeared, these always bother me the only other thing that has helped was applying tea tree oil to them. I thought that I had finally found my holy-grail toner but at around week 3 the bumps were back and the toner stopped clearing out my pores like it did before. I was heartbroken, my heart-shaped glasses had been shattered.

Would I recommend this toner to other people?

Of course! What my skin needs is different compared to what other people need so this toner might work a lot better for someone else. I love the ingredient list and for the price I don’t think you will find anything better.  I can absolutely see why people rave about Pixi’s toner but it sadly did not work for me.

I would give this product a 4 out of 5.

Modern Renaissance

When fall rolls around and the leaves start to change, the weather gets colder, and you are surrounded by pumpkin galore, you need the perfect eyeshadow palette for the fall season. I believe that Anastasia’s Modern Renaissance is the perfect fall palette. This palette includes eyeshadows that are purely matte and ones that are metallic and have a beautiful glitter to them that’s not too overpowering for your everyday use. From deep reds to earthy shades of orange and beige, all the way to romantic pinks and shimmery golds; this palette has everything you need and is super versatile.  The colors of the palette are extremely beautiful and super pigmented, they blend together beautifully and go on easily. The colors you see are the ones you get when you put on the eyeshadow and that’s one thing I absolutely adore about this palette.

The palette also comes with a brush that is just perfect for those who do not have brushes of their own.

The Sephora lip gloss is an affordable option for an everyday lip gloss.  For $12 you are getting more than expected. The lip gloss goes on smoothly, has great color, is silky, and if you opt for the shimmer finish you’ll be getting a beautiful shine that compares to higher end lip glosses.  My personal favorite is the deep rose. This lip gloss is a gem among the Sephora brand makeup.

BB Crème Au Ginseng Review

Winter Blues

With the winter months rolling in my skincare routine gets thrown into chaos. As I dry up like a raisin, I am often left wondering what I should do.  With my skin being so sensitive and the harshness of New York winters I am gifted with red irritated and dry patchy skin for the holiday season.

Finally, collecting my bravery I searched the internet for a solution and finally landed on something known as BB cream. BB cream is said to offer more coverage than a tinted moisturizer but is lighter than foundation. Most BB creams boast about all the benefits that they offer and after looking through countless reviews and countless sites, I finally landed on Erborian’s BB creme au Ginseng.

The name just sounded so posh, and the reviews were amazing, I felt fancy just putting it into my shopping cart.

Get this on

What is BB cream?

Like I said before, BB cream is somewhere between tinted moisturizer and foundation. It was first developed by a German dermatologist for people recovering from laser surgery in order to offer protection and coverage at the same time.

BB cream usually offers SPF protection as well as lots of benefits for the wearer. However, the BB cream cannot replace your skin care routine and should not. The small amount of BB cream you end up wearing is not enough to gain all the benefits a correct skin care routine can. It is also advised to still use sunscreen even with a BB cream because the protection it offers is not strong enough to fully protect your skin.

Ingredients and Review

Looking at the list of ingredients on the bottle of BB creme au Ginseng can be a scary and confusing experience that’s why I took into my hands to explain the benefits of the top 10 ingredients and the herbal and plant ingredients in the BB cream.

  • Aqua/ Water
  • Silicones
    • Cyclomethicone – This is a silicone that is usually used in a product to coat the skin but later evaporates, it is used to carry other ingredients onto the skin and makes the product easy to apply. It leaves the skin feeling silky and plump by filling in fine lines.
    • PEG – 10 Dimethicone – Used as an emulsifier (keeps ingredients from separating).
    • Dimethicone – used as moisturizer to treat and prevent rough, dry, and scaly skin

Isoecosane –  used as a replacement for mineral oil, usually used in oil-free moisturizers.

Hexyl laurate –  used to soften the skin.

Disteardimonium – viscosity control, provides suspension for the other ingredients

Plant-based ingredients

Ginseng root – has many phytonutrients, helps tone and brighten skin, boosts skin-firming collagen, acts as a skin whitener.

Licorice root – anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, calms and soothes acne prone skin

Portulaca extract – helps eliminate skin problems such as dermatitis and psoriasis, eliminates wrinkles, also has antioxidant properties

Yam root extract – Used to treat dry skin by reducing flaking

Kigelia Fruit – Anti-bacterial, firms skin, and fights melanoma

Equisetum giganteum extract – Contains silicon naturally, promotes tight firm skin, minimizes the appearance of pores, tones skin, moisturizing properties, good for sensitive skin

Overall, I’m pretty hyped for my purchase and I can’t wait to try it on and see what my experience will be with this product. The ingredients seem pretty safe and they won’t likely cause irritation. I am also looking forward to maybe having flawless looking skin that doesn’t look cakey or dry.
