Did you guys know that there is a difference between dehydrated and dry skin, and you might be surprised to learn that your “dry” skin might actually be dehydrated. While dry skin lacks oil, dehydrated skin lacks moisture.
Dry skin tends to be permanent and is widely considered a skin type. If you have dry skin most likely you will have dry skin everywhere on your body not just your face. People with dry skin usually are more predisposed to getting wrinkles. You can’t get rid of dry skin per-say but you can improve your skin by using the correct products. Starting with your cleanser, someone with dry skin should not use a foaming cleanser because these tend to strip your skin of natural oils; the oils that dry skin already lacks. So, instead use a milky oil based cleanser to clean and moisturize your face. Use a toner that is not drying and make sure you moisturize with a nourishing lotion and supplement further with oils that are beneficial for your skin. A diet rich in healthy fats is also great for those with dry skin.
We are always told it is important to hydrate, and when you are well hydrated your skin is well hydrated. When your skin is hydrated it looks supple, your skin is less prone to getting fine lines, and wrinkles, and your cells function at an optimal level. Dehydrated skin, unlike dry skin, is a condition that can be fixed and something most people will probably experience once in their lifetime. But not drinking water sometimes is not enough.
Skin dehydration can be caused by anything that damages your skin barrier, such as over exfoliating, stress, lack of sleep, not drinking enough water, a change in season or temperature, damage caused by skincare products, etc. Anything that damages your skin barrier can lead to dehydrated skin.
The good news? you can fix dehydrated skin.
First make sure you are drinking enough water. If you are, we can move on to the other steps. If you are not grab a water bottle and continue reading.
Next, Cut down on harsh exfoliating products, these maybe irritating and causing stress to your skin especially if you’re over exfoliating. Which will damage your skin barrier.
Use a moisturizing product with humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to attract moisture to your skin. A product with ceramide, fatty acids, and one that is occlusive to promote a healthy skin barrier.

With dry and dehydrated skin its hard to tell the difference as seen in my little chart up above but a rule of thumb is, if you have dry skin all year round you most likely have dry skin. If you suddenly wake up and have dry flaky skin, you most likely have dehydrated skin.
